Acquaintances are people that you know socially or through work or other activities, but you’re not very close with them.

You don’t spend much time together outside of where you met them and you don’t know much about them personally. You do not have strong feelings about your acquaintances.

You will meet some acquaintances that you like a lot, but you haven’t done the things that friends do, so you aren’t true friends.

You may meet some acquaintances that you don’t like, but you can still be friendly to them.

You can move from being just acquaintances to friends, but many people in work or other activities will stay acquaintances. Your coworkers are usually acquaintances. Some may become friends over time.
