More tips on Safe and Healthy Dating

  1. Don’t ask someone out in front of a lot of other people. It can be embarrassing for both of you.
  2. Try to give the other person a choice. If you want to go to a restaurant, ask them what kind of food they like. If you want to go to a movie, ask them what they would like to see.
  3. Always tell someone you trust where you will be and who you will be with.
  4. If you can, bring a cell phone with you.
  5. If someone pays for everything for you and buys you lots of gifts, they might want something back from you. They might not want it right away, but they might later tell you that you owe them something and tell you to do something you don’t want to do. For example, "you owe me a kiss or a hug because I bought you dinner." You don’t have to give anyone anything in exchange for gifts. You can say no.
  6. If you are on a date and someone asks you to do something you don’t want to do, you can say no. You can text or call a friend, staff, guardian, or parent if you need support. If you are in danger, call 911 (the police). Tell the police where you are and say “I am in danger.”
