Youth Transition: Everyone Can Work!

Once you leave high school you will have the opportunity to get a job in the community. Having a job is a great way to show the world what you are good at, to make new friends, and to earn a paycheck. But most of all, having a job can be really fun!

People with all types of disabilities are working in all types of jobs. Having a disability does not mean you can’t work. However, work looks different for everyone. Some people may work part-time (less than 32 hours a week) and others will work more. Some people may have a job coach helping them learn new tasks while others may work independently. There is no wrong way.

It is also important that your job matches what you are good at and comfortable with. A person who is good with people should consider a job in customer service. A person who is good with their hands might find success fixing or assembling things. It is a good idea to explore different types of jobs. There are many places you can work that you may have never thought of.
