“Hacked” means someone gets into your social media account without permission. The hacker can take over your account and pretend to be you. The hacker might be able to get to other information on your computer or phone.

What Should I Do If I Get Hacked?

If your social media is hacked, you should:

  • Reset your password
  • Make a post letting your friends know not to click any recent links from you
  • Make sure your bank account and other accounts are secure
  • Report you were hacked to the social media app so they can help you get your account back

How Can I Avoid Getting Hacked?

  • Do not add people on social media if you do not know them.
  • Do not click on or share any games that ask you to share personal information.
  • Use privacy settings on social media apps.
  • Ask a family member or close friend to help make sure your accounts are safe and secure.
