Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

The Americans with Disabilities Act is also called the “ADA.” The ADA is a law that protects you from being treated differently because of your disability. ADA says that reasonable accommodations should be available to you when going to the doctor.

You can ask for a reasonable accommodation to help you:

  • Get into or around a health care building and parking areas safely
  • Communicate and understand things about your health care
  • Have longer appointment times
  • Understand information in other formats
    • You may ask for different formats like:
    • Large print, American sign language, braille, plain language, photos or pictures, videos or audio recordings
