Guardianship

Guardianship means someone has the legal right to make decisions for you. They are your “guardian”.

If you have a legal guardian, they will be the final decision maker, even when you are an adult and if you disagree with their decision.

Being safe and asking for reasonable accommodations during a doctor’s visit are your rights, even if you have a legal guardian.

A guardian should listen to, consider and respect your ideas and choices whenever possible.

A guardian can help you learn more about making decisions for health care.

There are other ways you can receive support and help without having a legal guardian.
